Outlines the expectations and responsibilities that coaches have towards their athletes, team, and organisation.
The Code of Conduct set out below are the Sporting Rugby Code of Conduct for Coaches that are in line with those set by the FA Coaches Association Codes of Conduct (which reflect the standards expressed by the National Coaching Foundation and the National Association of Sports Coaches) which forms the benchmark for all those involved in coaching.
Coaches Must
- Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of all people and treat them equally within the context of sport.
- Place the well-being and safety of each player above all other considerations, including the development of performance.
- Adhere to all guidelines laid down by governing bodies.
- Develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based on mutual trust and respect.
- Not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.
- Encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their behaviour and performance.
- Ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the players' age, maturity, experience, and ability.
- Clarify with players and parents at the outset exactly what is expected of them and also what they, as players and parents, are entitled to expect from you.
- Cooperate fully with other specialists (e.g. other coaches, officials, doctors, physiotherapists) in the players' best interests.
- Always promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the Laws of the Game, behaviour contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the Game, or the use of prohibited substances or techniques.
- Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
- Not use or tolerate the use of inappropriate or foul language.
Your Agreement
As a coach with Sporting Rugby, you agree to abide by the club's Codes of Conduct and accept that any breach of those codes could result in disciplinary action by the club and the FA if the breach is deemed severe enough.
